PRAMOD KAMBLE

Pramod Kamble is a renowned artist, painter and sculptor based in Ahmednagar. He comes from an illustrious family of sculptors and artists. Pramod’s grandfather was a sculptor and painter who made statues and paintings for the village temple and festivals. He was also a master weaver. Pramod’s father was an art teacher in the first art school in Ahmednagar.
Pramod too took to art early in life and started painting and creating sculptures. However, he had a special liking for sculpting which led him to winning many awards including the first prize at the all India art and sculpture competition conducted by Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT).
He then went on to graduate from the JJ School of Art with a gold medal. At the same time he worked as an Assistant Art Director at a film studio in Mumbai. He could have gone on to make a lucrative career in the Indian film industry but shunned it all to return to his native Ahmednagar. But as he reminisces that “people in Ahmednagar were not so appreciative about art in those days.” In his initial days, he was therefore called upon to make sign boards for vada pav carts or design wedding cards. He then went on to make sketches and portraits for people.
Gradually he went on to do large projects including a huge 70 x 20 feet mural of 500 Indian personalities entirely . This project was titled “Saare Jahaan Se Acchha” and is today one of the highlights of Ahmednagar. He was also commissioned by the Mechanised Infantry Regimental Center (MIRC) in Ahmednagar to create murals of war scenes, their mascot Mech Man, and many other projects.

With the changing times, he has now perfected life-like replicas of animals in fibre-glass which are a huge hit with the young and old alike. His attention to detail while creating life-size animals is what sets him apart from others. He says that though art is now every bit a commercial industry, he still revels in creating artworks for the sheer passion of it because “art can never die.”
